The resulting system architecture models, simulation code, and analysis were subsequently purchased by a large energy company.
  • Led a team conducting a performance bottleneck simulation of a local restaurant. The results of our study were purchased by the restaurant's owner and implemented over the following year, helping to raise operating profit margin by 7%.

  • I am a Member of the Apache Software Foundation. Members are a small group of peer-elected leaders who are also legal shareholders in the Foundation, and are responsible for its overall development, growth, and management as the leading entity of its kind.
  • I am a committer and project management committee member on the Apache Tomcat project. The leading servlet container, Tomcat is used by numerous Fortune 1000 companies for mission-critical web application as well as internal research and development. I have been a contributor to the Tomcat project since 2001.
  • I am a committer for the Log4j toolkit and a member of the Logging Services Project Management Committee.
  • I have been involved with numerous Java libraries and other projects under the Jakarta umbrella, and I am also a member of that Jakarta Project Management Committee.
  • I provide opinion and guidance on public relations issues of interest to the Foundation as a member of its Public Relations Committee.
  • I help mentor new projects into the Apache Software Foundation via the Incubator mechanism, and I serve on the Incubator's Project Management Committee. I am or have been involved with the following projdcts:
    • Apache Solr: an enterprise search server on top of Lucene, with XML, HTTP, and JSON APIs.
    • Apache Lokahi: a modular, web-based framework for the management of application servers.
    • Apache OFBiz: open-source enterprise automation.
    • Apache Qpid: multiple language implementations of the Advanced Messaged Queuing Protocol (AMQP).
    • Apache Abdera: a functionally-complete, high-performance implementation of the IETF Atom Syndication Format and Atom Publishing Protocol (AtomPub) specifications.
  • I won the inaugural Apache / Covalent Open Source Leaders of Tomorrow award in 2005.
  • I was a mentor for two student participants working on Apache projects in the Google Summer of Code initiative.
