The Avvy Awards

The final event of the conference was the "come as your own avatar" party, which was held at the Anon Salon club and included the Avvy Awards. Despite bandwidth limitations being simulated by the narrow corridors and small rooms, the Avvys still managed to get more people interacting in one room than they have in cyberspace.

The winner, Geisha from Planet 9 Studios, was beautifully presented with a low polygon count, compact textures and sound, bowing politely and welcoming us to her home-Virtual Kyoto-in English and Japanese; see Figure 7.

The judges were Kirk Parsons, "The Avatar Guy," designer of avatar tools from Attic Graphics; Marta Swinney, freelance 3D modeler and animator; Robert Rothfarb, virtual-world designer for NTT, and myself. --S.W.

And the winners were:

Best Animation.........................Bloater from British Telecom
Best Bang for the Buck.............Madame from British Telecom
Best Humanoid..........................Spawn from Hollyworlds
Best Character............................Anne from Meet Factory
