Turn It into Japanese

Lernout & Hauspie has released a new product that performs realtime machine translations: iTranslator Enterprise. It will translate between English and several languages—Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese—which will make this of particular interest to those doing business in Europe and Asia. A unique feature is its built-in capability to link with human translators to augment the machine translation.

iTranslator must be installed on NT machines (the installation and configuration are not trivial tasks) and has a significant footprint of over 20GB on the master server (both a master server and Web server are required). Also, if your machine name exceeds nine characters, you'll have to rename it, which can be inconvenient.

A useful add-on is iTranslator MT SDK (MT stands for "Machine Translation"). The SDK gives programmers 42 API calls to access the translation engine using a library, dynamic link library, or COM server (not available for Japanese). A related product, iTranslator Real-Time—a service in which L & H hosts the translation services—is also available from L & H.
