Thunderbird filter generator for the Apache Commons mailing lists

The traffic on the Commons Dev and Commons User lists is quite high, and one can't reasonably follow them without setting a complex set of mail filters. This pages details the procedure to configure these filters easily for Mozilla Thunderbird 1.0.x. These filters will perform the following tasks:

• Move the general messages to a root folder
• Move the mails to a specific folder for the component right under the root folder(lang, io, digester...)
• Change the color of the messages from the commons-users list (green)
• Change the color of the messages from the commons-cvs list (purple)

Steps

1. Open Thunderbird
2. Create a root folder (for example Inbox/Jakarta)
3. Create the component folders under the root folder
4. Close Thunderbird
5. Open the msgFilterRules.dat file in your profile directory
6. Append the generated rules to the file, save and close
7. Start Thunderbird and enjoy
